Traditional character. Practical modern solutions.

Heritage & Conservation

Leander Architectural has a heritage of traditional casting, sign-making and architectural metalwork dating back to 1874.

Today we combine those traditional skills with modern engineering and manufacturing to repair, restore and reproduce historic architectural metalwork for listed buildings, conservation areas, public spaces, estates and heritage projects.

From a missing casting or damaged fingerpost to decorative columns and complete bespoke assemblies, we can help determine what should be retained, what needs to be reproduced and the most appropriate way to manufacture it.

Repair, Restore & Reproduce
Leander Architectural_Website-26.jpg

Our extensive archive contains hundreds of established casting patterns, accumulated through Leander Architectural, Nunlow and The Royal Label Factory.

Where possible, we can repair and retain original components or use existing patterns to reproduce missing pieces. Where something genuinely bespoke is required, we can develop new patterns and components from originals, fragments, drawings, photographs or site information.

Heritage & Structural Columns

Traditional cast appearance combined, where appropriate, with a modern engineered structural core. Traditional cast iron and bespoke solutions can also be developed where conservation or structural requirements demand them.

Traditional Where It Matters

Conservation does not always mean reproducing every component using exactly the same method as the original. Where a listed building, conservation requirement or structural need demands traditional construction, we can develop specialist solutions using new patterns, cast iron and traditional metalworking.

Where the priority is preserving the appearance, proportions and character of historic metalwork, established patterns and modern materials or construction methods can often provide a more practical solution.

Our approach is to understand what matters to the project first, then recommend an appropriate manufacturing route.

Leander has manufactured traditional signs and architectural castings for generations, with an extensive archive of historic patterns and designs. Rather than designing every fingerpost completely from scratch, we can combine established column, arm, collar, column base (where appropriate) and finial designs to create a fingerpost appropriate to the individual project.

This gives customers the benefits of a proven product range while retaining the flexibility to choose the appearance, lettering, directions, colours and details required for their location.

For restoration and conservation projects, we can also investigate matching or reproducing existing historic components.
