Our Rail Division supplies high quality cast iron, steel & aluminium metalwork/secondary steelwork, heritage replica metalwork and bespoke work to the Rail Industry. This allows us to meet the diverse engineering requirements of an industry that has vast quantities of protected Victorian architecture as well as ultra modern designs.

The Victorians were masters of incorporating cast iron as columns and brackets to build highly ornate and robust bridges, buildings and all manner of ships, trains etc. As a result, railway networks around the world, have hundreds of historic period stations and structures (usually listed/protected) that incorporate wonderful castings.

We have been involved in the Rail Industry and Architectural Metalwork for decades. To ensure that our products will meet their project requirements, timescales and budgets, we're committed to industry standards, specifications and design procedures.

Rail Infrastructure and Heritage Products

Much of our standard metalwork is suitable for the Rail & Heritage Railways sector, where we create and install specialist replication and restoration products. These can range from replacement columns and brackets, through to much larger projects. We design, manufacture, supply and (in certain instances) install a whole range of heritage architectural metalwork.

With our specialist replication/restoration services and products, our scope includes canopies, station furniture, signage and fencing. Traditional metalwork offers a beautiful welcoming appearance to your railway facility or station.

Leander Rail is committed to providing bespoke fabricated solutions for any project requirement. We have a large manufacturing facility based centrally in the Peak District, which is extremely flexible in its approach to manufacturing specialist designs.

With decades of foundry and fabrication experience, we have the ability to fulfil almost all bespoke requirements.

Our modern 3D CAD design facility, combined with expert structural engineers, allows us to offer turn-key design to manufacture of bespoke projects as seamlessly as possible. The team at Leander Rail offer full technical assistance from the start of your project right until final sign off – including site visits as required.

Ironwork Restoration & Replication

The Victorian period saw a massive increase in the use of cast Iron across all industry – especially railways. The Victorians were masters of incorporating this robust material as columns and brackets to build highly ornate and robust bridges, buildings and all manner of ships, trains etc.

As a result, railway networks around the world, have hundreds of historic period stations and structures (usually listed/protected) that incorporate wonderful castings. Over the last century or so, many of these castings have become brittle & fragile. We offer bespoke and innovative solutions to replace, repair and/or refurbish these specialist items – to the latest specifications.

Having worked closely with key railway industry partners and technical specialists, Leander Rail has been able to faithfully restore or replace items that were previously thought impossible – especially on a live operational railway network. We can speak your language. These are usually bespoke projects & we are always keen to evaluate new opportunities, please contact our Structures team. In addition to our Metalwork solutions, our foundry produces plaques, signs and information display for individual railways, bridge and culvert plates for Network Rail, and Award Plaques for annual presentations.

Cast signs, Plaques & Platform Furniture

Leander Architectural restores and manufacture a vast array of items/equipment related to the rail industry – both mainline and heritage.

Our most common railway signage products are the individual railway, bridge and culvert plates for Network Rail and award Plaques for presentations and award dinners. Using our unparalleled industry knowledge producing high-quality cast signage and bespoke metalwork which, combined with our vast pattern archive allows us to manufacture a very wide range of traditional and contemporary signage.

Street (or station!) furniture plays an important part in the layout and practical use for every day visitors to the railway station. Our range of street furniture includes heritage lighting, benches and notice boards which are both robust and attractive. We also manufacture any bespoke designs (including litter bins) to suit the aesthetics of most railway stations.

Installation of cast plaques, signs and noticeboards etc

We offer an installation service for train operating companies, local councils and other bodies. We have fitted commemorative plaques to West Coast mainline railway stations previously and we can meet the requirements to enable us to install of our noticeboards safely on operational mainline station platforms.

Heritage Railway

We have built a reputation for our wide-ranging knowledge and experience in the railway sector – particularly with our expertise in reproduction rolling stock, heritage castings, signs and structures.

We bring a unique level of research to all our heritage projects which is carried through to our design and engineering to ensure details are faithfully recreated and, where it proves necessary, sympathetically blended with modern technology. New designs for period locations are also well researched – with traditional looking, new castings or forgings provided where feasible.

Leander Rail is renowned for its understanding of the numerous listed and heritage
